Gurbaksh Singh (25), who was arrested in connection with snapping of power supply to the residence of deceased Punjab Warehousing Corporation (PWC) manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, died in police custody on Wednesday.He and Lovepreet Singh, both residents of Faizpura locality, were arrested in connection the Randhawa case. They were currently in five-day police remand. The police had booked former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar in the Randhawa case.According to the police, Gurbaksh was suffering from some critical disease. He was brought to hospital for treatment on Tuesday also and his family knew about his health condition.Ranjit Avenue police station SHO Robin Hans said the health condition of Gurbaksh Singh, who was also a drug addict, deteriorated in the police custody, following which he was admitted to Civil Hospital from where he was shifted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. He died during treatment there.Alleging foul play, the family of the deceased has accused the police of physically torturing him during custody. Victim’s mother Manjit Kaur claimed her son was severely beaten up by police officials, leading to deterioration in his health condition.The police authorities, however, refuted the allegations and said a magisterial probe would be carried out in the case and the post-mortem examination would be conducted by a board of directors to ascertain the cause of death. The entire procedure would be videographed, they added.
