Punjab Kings continued their winning streak in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) by registering a six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in a battle of the openers. While Sunrisers openers Abhishek Sharma (74 off 28 balls) and Travis Head (38 off 23 balls) posted the highest powerplay total of the season, the Kings openers were also off to a flying start and laid the winning foundation for the side. This was Kings’ third win of the tournament, and second at home. From 120 for no loss at the start of the ninth over, the Sunrisers innings ended at 219. After keeping the Sunrisers total within reach, Kings started the job with Prabhsimran Singh (51 off 25 balls) and Priyansh Arya (57 off 20 balls). While the duo ensured a fiery start, skipper Shreyas Iyer (69 off 33 balls) stayed till the end to close out the match. The trio shared 14 sixes out of the total 16 recorded during the Kings innings. The 220-run target was completed in 18.3 overs. The Punjab openers gathered 99 runs in just 6.2 overs. The hit left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey for 18 runs in the opening over. Jaydev Unadkat and Eshan Malinga then got the punishment.Arya hammered Harshal Patel for two consecutive sixes and two back-to-back boundaries to reach a 16-ball 50. Shivang Kumar gave some hope to the visiting side by picking the wickets of Arya, Prabhsimran and Cooper Connolly (11). However, Iyer played calmly to record a 10th chase of 200-plus total for the side in the IPL.Earlier, playing at his home ground, Abhishek brought havoc along with Head. The duo took 22 balls to score the first 50, followed by another 14 to take the total to 100. Dealing with only boundaries and sixes, Abhishek had Arshdeep Singh, Xavier Bartlett, Marco Jansen and Vijaykumar Vyshak on his radar. He completed his 50 off 18 balls, with five boundaries. He scored a 28-ball 74, while Head moved to 38 off 23 balls. The duo shared a 120-run opening partnership. The side posted 84 for no loss in five overs. With 100 off 36 balls, Sunrisers looked set to post a huge total. However, a smart move by Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer held back Sunrisers. With the opening duo on a rampage, Iyer made an unexpected move by bringing Shashank Singh to the attack. Shashank brought back the side by claiming both the openers. Abhishek alone hit eight sixes, while no other batter managed more than one off the total 13.
