After Iran retaliated and hit Israel’s nuclear facility at Dimona, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said “maximum military restraint” should be observed in the vicinity of such facilities.Director General, IAEA, Rafael Grossi, posted on X: “The IAEA is aware of reports of an incident in the city of Dimona, Israel, involving a missile impact and has not received any indication of damage to the nuclear research centre at Negev.”Information from regional states indicated that no abnormal radiation levels had been detected, the IAEA said. Grossi advised, “Maximum military restraint should be observed, in particular in the vicinity of nuclear facilities.”Yesterday, Grossi had warned that continued strikes on nuclear facilities could trigger a dangerous radiological incident.Iran said it targeted Dimona as a “response” to an earlier strike on the Natanz nuclear enrichment site.A news agency reported Dimona has a large Indian-Jewish population, and the community members, mostly from the state of Maharashtra, maintain strong links with India and have consistently put efforts into solidifying them. This has earned the town the nickname of “Little India”.Indian shops are spread across the town and Marathi can be heard everywhere, with the 7,500-strong Indian community making up some 30 per cent of the town’s population. At least 47 persons were injured on Saturday evening after an Iranian missile struck the town. The Israel Defence Forces said they were investigating the failure to intercept the Iranian ballistic missile. The Israeli army said the air defences engaged the ballistic missile, but the interceptors failed to knock it down.
