The Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully revalidated the firepower employed during Operation Sindoor at the Pokhran field firing range in Jaisalmer during an exercise held on Thursday evening. The exercise, named ‘Vayu Shakti’, marked the first live firepower demonstration following Operation Sindoor and showcased the use of missiles, drones and air defence systems. The IAF demonstrated its combat readiness, operational synergy and technological capability across the full spectrum of air operations. President Droupadi Murmu witnessed the demonstration, accompanied by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The exercise highlighted the IAF’s ability to execute complex, integrated air operations in a dynamic and realistic battlefield environment. For the first time, ‘Vayu Shakti’ was conducted along a defined operational storyline, simulating a live combat theatre. It seamlessly integrated offensive air strikes, air defence operations, special forces missions and humanitarian assistance, underscoring the IAF’s role as a multi-domain force and the nation’s first responder.Air defence capabilities were demonstrated through coordinated engagements involving airborne platforms and ground-based systems such as the Akash and SPYDER missile systems, supported by Army air defence assets, including the L-70 and M777, reflecting seamless jointmanship between air and ground forces.Fighter jets demonstrated precision missile launches against ground and aerial targets. Behind the scenes, drones provided live imagery, while loitering (kamikaze) drones, also deployed during Operation Sindoor, showcased their strike capability. The exercise was enabled by networking multiple platforms through the Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS), an automated, net-centric system that allows real-time air defence surveillance, tracking and interception.
