In one-sided love with his maternal cousin and not ready to take no for an answer, a man took cue from the 1975 cult classic “Sholay” and scaled a mobile tower here, demanding to marry the woman.But unlike the film’s protagonist Veeru, whose wish to marry Basanti was granted after he pulled the dangerous stunt, luck was not on the side of 23-year-old Raju Pal, who was taken into custody by police and sent for counselling.The spectacle unfolded in Kachhiyani Khera village under the Tilhar police station area on Monday, drawing a large crowd.Pal (23), who claimed to be in love with the woman for the last eight years, threatened to jump from the tower if he was not allowed to marry her, police said on Tuesday.Pal’s proposal to marry the woman was rejected by her family. His family, too, never supported him, they said.Angered by the repeated refusals, Pal climbed the tower, triggering panic in the area. On receiving information about the incident, a police team rushed to the spot.Tilhar Circle Officer Jyoti Yadav said that police managed to persuade the man to safely come down from the tower after around seven hours.She said his family did not have any idea about his plan, she said.Station House Officer, Tilhar, Jugal Kishore, said Pal has been taken into custody and is under observation. He is also being counselled to prevent him from taking any such steps in the future.
