A married Indian-American couple who operated a motel in Northern Virginia have been accused by federal authorities of profiting from drug trafficking and prostitution allegedly carried out on their property, according to court documents unsealed this week.Kosha Sharma, 52, and her husband Tarun Sharma, 55, appeared in federal court following their arrest in connection with a wide-ranging investigation into criminal activity at the Red Carpet Inn in Dumfries. The couple, who operated the motel through their business entity, Kosha LLC, are accused of knowingly allowing and financially benefiting from illegal activity on the premises.Prosecutors allege that since May 2023, the Sharmas leased and operated the Red Carpet Inn and took a share of profits generated from drug sales and prostitution occurring primarily on the motel’s third floor. The couple is charged with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, including fentanyl, a charge that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison if convicted. From late May through mid-December 2025, law enforcement officers conducted nine undercover prostitution encounters and 15 controlled drug purchases at the motel, according to the criminal complaint. Eleven of those purchases involved fentanyl, while four involved cocaine.Authorities allege that Margo Waldon Pierce, 51, distributed narcotics during all 15 controlled purchases. Two additional defendants–Joshua Roderick, 40 and Rashard Perrish Smith, 33 –were also arrested for their alleged roles in the operation. The investigation was conducted jointly by the FBI, the Prince William County Police Department, and the Virginia State Police.
