Ahmedabad is witnessing an unprecedented surge in hotel prices as excitement builds for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final between India and New Zealand on Sunday.The highly anticipated match is set to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, drawing thousands of cricket fans from across the country and abroad.The massive demand for accommodation has pushed hotel room rates across the city to unusually high levels.This final marks the second time in less than a year that India and New Zealand will face each other in the title clash of a major ICC white-ball tournament.The two sides previously met in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. With both teams aiming to create history, the match has generated enormous interest among supporters.If India secure victory, they will become the first team to successfully defend the men’s T20 World Cup title. It would also mark India’s third T20 World Cup triumph, the most by any team in the tournament’s history, and the first time a team wins the title on home soil. New Zealand, on the other hand, are chasing their first-ever T20 World Cup title. Their best finish came in 2022, when they ended the tournament as runners-up to Australia.The rising demand for rooms has significantly impacted hotel pricing in Ahmedabad.According to a report by The Times of India, budget hotel rooms in several parts of the city are being quoted at around Rs 15,000 per night. Premium hotels are charging between Rs 56,000 and Rs 80,000 for a single night, with some properties expected to cross Rs 1 lakh as match day approaches.Narendra Somani, president of the Gujarat Hotels and Restaurants Association, said the demand has dramatically increased since India’s semi-final victory over England. Meanwhile, Sanjeev Chhajer of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry noted that the event presents a major opportunity for the city’s hospitality and tourism sector.
