Large number of residents of Kangra Valley today staged a protest against the continued delay in restoring train services on the historic Pathankot-Joginder Nagar Railway Line.The protesters assembled at Kophar Lahar near Kangra, voicing growing frustration over the prolonged disruption of the transport lifeline in the region.Raising slogans and holding placards, protesters accused railway authorities of negligence towards their long-pending demand for the resumption of train services.They said the suspension has severely impacted daily commuters, traders, students, and the tourism sector, which heavily depends on the scenic rail route.The demonstrators also criticised the local Member of Parliament Rajiv Bhardwaj, alleging a lack of proactive intervention and a “lukewarm approach” in pursuing the matter with the Railway Minister and the Union Government. Despite repeated representations and assurances, they claimed, no concrete progress has been made to expedite restoration work.Speakers at the protest warned that the agitation would be further intensified if their demands were not addressed promptly. They urged both railway authorities and elected representatives to prioritise the revival of services on the heritage rail line.A Heritage Lifeline\B The Pathankot–Joginder Nagar railway line, a narrow-gauge track, was constructed during the British era and became operational in 1929. Laid primarily to facilitate access to the remote hill regions and to support hydroelectric projects in the area, the line gradually evolved into a vital transport link for the people of Kangra Valley.Protesters demanded the announcement of a clear timeline for the resumption of services and fix accountability for the delay.
