Six months have passed since the devastating floods in the Baupur mand region, yet many farmers are still struggling to restore their agricultural land. Several fields have not been fully levelled even now. Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal continues to extend support to flood-affected farmers through ongoing kar sewa. While interacting with farmers during his visit to the mand region, Sant Seechewal stated that the kar sewa would continue with the support of the sangat until the land of the last affected farmer is fully levelled. He informed that in the Baupur mand area, land-levelling work is currently being carried out using 13 tractors and excavator machines.Farmers Sukhwinder Singh and Balwinder Singh from mand Mubarakpur said that floodwaters had deposited 7 to 8 feet of sand on their nine acres of land. They shared that under the leadership of Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, land-levelling work has been underway for the past two months. Every day, 8 to 10 tractors, excavators and laser-levelling machines are being used. The farmers added that the cost of diesel required for such large-scale operations was beyond their capacity, which became possible only through kar sewa.Similarly, young farmer Arshdeep Singh from the Mand region said that sand had filled all 12 of his fields during the floods. With the support of Sant Seechewal, pits are first being dug in three fields to dump the sand, after which the remaining fields will be levelled. During his visit to the mand region, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal also met families whose children study in private schools. Parents alleged that school managements are barring flood-affected students from appearing in examinations due to non-payment of fees.Appealing to private school managements, Sant Seechewal urged them to adopt a compassionate approach towards flood-affected families and not deny children their right to appear in examinations over fee-related issues. He emphasised that education is a fundamental right and no child can be stopped from taking examinations. Sant Seechewal further stated that if private schools continue to insist on collecting fees from flood-affected families, arrangements for the payment of those fees will also be made with the support of the sangat.
