Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said the people of Kerala were “ready for change”, as he pitched for the return of the United Democratic Front (UDF) to power in the upcoming Assembly elections. In a message posted on X, Rahul framed the UDF as a broad-based platform representing the aspirations of the state. “The candidates of the UDF reflect both experience and youth, with a grounded understanding of local constituencies,” he said.Describing Kerala as his “home” and its people as “family”, he added that he remained committed to supporting the state’s future. “The message from Kerala is clear — people want a government that listens, understands, and delivers with honesty,” Rahul said, expressing confidence that the UDF would lead the state forward. His remarks come a day after the Congress released its list of 92 candidates for the April 9 Assembly poll, signalling a calibrated strategy to take on the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF). In a notable shift, the party has decided against fielding any of its Members of Parliament, choosing to rely entirely on its state leadership. The move follows internal deliberations within the party, with the leadership opting to back local faces despite pressure to deploy national figures. The Congress will contest 92 seats, leaving the remaining constituencies to its UDF allies and select Independent candidates.
