Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is set to visit India on May 14-15 to participate in the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting, marking a key diplomatic engagement under India’s presidency of the grouping.The visit was confirmed by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko to news agency TASS, who said the meeting would help shape the “general outlines” of documents to be presented at the upcoming BRICS summit.On the sidelines of the multilateral engagement, Lavrov is also expected to hold bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other senior Indian officials, reflecting continued high-level exchanges between New Delhi and Moscow.India holds the BRICS presidency in 2026 at a time when the grouping is expanding in both membership and geopolitical influence. The ministerial meeting is expected to lay the groundwork for the summit agenda amid shifting global alignments and ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.The visit follows sustained diplomatic engagement between the two countries, with both sides reaffirming their “time-tested” partnership and exploring avenues to deepen cooperation in trade, technology and connectivity.
