Following the killing of a retired Army Brigadier, who was allegedly caught in a crossfire between two groups, in Dehradun, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday alleged a complete breakdown of law-and-order situation under the BJP government in Uttarakhand.Gandhi said the broad daylight shooting of Brigadier VK Joshi (retd), who had stepped out for a morning walk, exposed a deepening security crisis in the state. He asserted that a region once known for calm and safety was now witnessing rising fear and violence.“Those who served the country on the borders are no longer safe within their own cities. Under the BJP’s leadership, criminals operate without fear while ordinary citizens are left vulnerable,” he said.According to the police, the incident took place on Monday at Johri village in the Rajpur area along the Mussoorie road, where a dispute over a bill at a nightclub escalated into gunfire between two groups. The retired officer was fatally hit during the exchange.The police said four persons, including the nightclub owner, had been arrested, while further investigation was underway to establish the sequence of events and accountability.The killing has triggered a political flashpoint, with the Congress using the incident to question governance and public safety in the hill state, while the focus of the probe remains on the circumstances that led to the fatal crossfire.
