The Lok Sabha stalemate intensified on Tuesday after the government released video footage showing women members from the opposition carrying banners, crossing over to the treasury side, and blocking the path to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s seat on February 4.Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju shared the footage, highlighting opposition MPs, led by Congress’ Jyothimani, positioning themselves directly in the PM’s path.“Congress Party is proud of the most degrading behavior by their MPs!! If we had not stopped all BJP MPs and allowed the Women MPs to confront Cong. MPs, it would have led to very ugly scene. We have very high consideration, to protect the dignity & sanctity of the Parliament,” Rijiju said. The opposition is planning to submit a notice for the removal of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, though the Trinamool Congress has stayed away from signing it. Over 100 MPs from other opposition parties have signed the notice.Congress Party is proud of the most degrading behavior by their MPs !! However, Lok Sabha secretariat sources defended the Speaker, saying he made a reasonable call in urging PM Modi not to come to the House, as any untoward incident could have occurred with women MPs blocking his path. The release of the footage comes ahead of a meeting between opposition leaders and the Speaker, where they plan to press for Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to be allowed to speak in the House as a precondition to running parliamentary proceedings. If the demand is not met, the opposition is expected to move forward with the notice for Birla’s removal. With the video now public, all eyes are on the Speaker’s meeting with the Rahul Gandhi-led opposition delegation later on Tuesday.
