The Lok Sabha proceedings were washed out on Friday due to vociferous protests by the Opposition, with no business transacted after a couple of quick adjournments.As soon as the House convened at 11 am, Speaker Om Birla adjourned it within minutes till noon, as Opposition members rushed into the well of the House carrying banners and posters.The protests continued unabated the House reconvened, with the Opposition members raising slogans against the Centre over the military standoff between India and China in eastern Ladakh in 2020.TDP MP Krishna Prasad Tenneti, who was presiding over the proceedings, allowed ministers to lay papers. However, as the uproar persisted, he adjourned the House for the day.Meanwhile, Opposition MPs staged a protest against the India-US trade agreement at the main entrance of the Parliament building, holding a banner calling it a “trap deal.”Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also joined the protest as MPs raised slogans such as “jo uchit samjho, wahi karo” (Do whatever you think is right) and “tanashahi nahi chalegi” (dictatorship will not be accepted), criticising the Centre.The sloganeering followed Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in the Rajya Sabha, where he said, “Jo uchit samjho, wahi karo.”The Opposition has been protesting since February 2, after Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to quote excerpts from the memoir of former Army Chief General MM Naravane, published in a news magazine. Speaker Om Birla stopped him from reading the excerpts, citing rules 349 and 353.
