The Ludhiana Police have solved the murder case of Congress leader and Machhiwara Sahib block president Parminder Tiwari, officials said on Saturday. Two main accused — Vijay Kumar and Lucky, both residents of Machhiwara Sahib — have been arrested following raids in Bihar. The accused allegedly hacked Tiwari to death with an axe on March 29 near Takhran village while he was sitting outside his rented accommodation.Police said the murder stemmed from a long-standing dispute over panchayat land and the demolition of a house constructed on it. However, the deceased’s family had alleged it was a contract killing and had even delayed the cremation until the main accused were arrested.Addressing a press conference, DCP Rural Jaskiranjit Singh Teja stated that the murder was not politically motivated but the result of a property dispute over panchayat land.Apart from the two key accused, four others had already been arrested earlier for harbouring and providing shelter to the main suspects. The arrests came four days after the brutal daylight killing, following which the family performed the last rites.
