Dubai authorities have issued a stern warning to residents about sharing unverified or “negative” content on social media amid heightened regional tensions following recent attacks in the Gulf.A video circulating online, widely shared especially among Indian communities in the UAE, shows a speaker — identified as a Dubai Police representative — telling viewers not to post clips of accidents, fires or other adverse incidents, warning that such posts harm Dubai’s image. The clip claims those responsible could face “direct deportation,” though officials emphasise that legal consequences for misinformation stem from UAE cybercrime laws rather than an automatic deportation policy.Under Federal Decree‑Law No. 34 of 2021 on combating rumours and cybercrimes, spreading or circulating false, misleading or unverified information that contradicts official announcements can carry criminal penalties.Authorities, including Dubai Police, have reiterated that offenders may face fines of at least AED 200,000 (around Rs 4.5 lakh) and imprisonment if misinformation causes public panic or threatens safety — with penalties increasing during crises.Dubai International Airport and the UAE Cyber Security Council have also alerted the public to fabricated and digitally altered videos circulating online, urging reliance only on official government channels for updates. Officials stress responsible online behaviour to protect public order and national security during sensitive times.
