Manipur violence: Police arrests four militants for possession of firearms, extortion | India News




NEW DELHI: Police on Saturday said that four militants from two banned outfits in Manipur have been arrested for illegal possession of firearms and involvement in extortion.According to the police statement the three members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) were arrested on Thursday for their role in extortion and possession of weapons.The arrested individuals were identified as Chongtham Shyamchandra Singh (23) from Imphal West district, and Maibam Suraj Khan (32) and Boghimayum Sahid Khan (30) from Imphal East district.Authorities also seized three 5.56 mm INSAS live cartridges, one empty .32 ammunition case and three mobile phones from their possession.In a separate operation, police arrested a member of the banned United National Liberation Front (Ningon Macha group) for illegal possession of firearms. He was identified as Sangomshumpham Warish aged 25, who was a resident of Lilong Haorou in Thoubal district. Officials also recovered a .32 pistol and ammunition from him.Additionally, security forces discovered weapons and ammunition during an area control operation at S Mongpi ridge in Kangpokpi district on the same day.The recovered items included a .303 rifle, a 9mm pistol, two SBBL guns, a 5.56mm INSAS LMG magazine, two hand grenades, two detonators, 16 cartridges and three tear smoke grenades.(With inputs from PTI)
