Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday launched a sharp political attack on the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) while addressing a rally of the party in Nangal. The rally began on a religious and cultural note, with Vedic chants, slogans of “Har Har Mahadev,” and the ceremonial breaking of a coconut marking the inauguration. The atmosphere intensified as “Rang De Basanti Chola,” associated with freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, echoed across the venue when Mann arrived, accompanied by senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia and Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.During the rally, Mann laid the foundation stones for key development projects, including a water treatment plant and the Captain Anmol Kalia Centre of Excellence to be brought up in ITI Nangal. He also announced a 500-seat auditorium in Bhim Rao Ambedkar School of Eminence in Nangal.Mann accused both the Congress and SAD of dynastic politics and neglecting Punjab’s core issues. “These parties have a five-point programme – me, my son, my brother-in-law and my family.”He took a direct swipe at SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, remarking that “If he were capable, his father would have made him Chief Minister.”Mann also targeted Bikram Singh Majithia, stating that his only qualification was being related to Badal.Mann accused previous governments of failing to ensure irrigation and drinking water to Anandpur Sahib and Nangal regions despite the Sutlej river flowing through the region.“It is surprising that areas through which the Sutlej passes were deprived of basic water facilities,” Mann said, adding that his government had revived canal irrigation across Punjab. He also revisited the longstanding issue of water sharing, alleging that former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had compromised Punjab’s interests by allowing excess water allocation to Haryana. Mann claimed his government had taken a firm stand with the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) to protect Punjab’s water rights.Earlier, Harjot Singh Bains highlighted the religious and geographical significance of Anandpur Sahib, saying the blessings of Anandpur Sahib and Naina Devi define the region’s identity. He said irrigation water has now reached the long-neglected Changar belt, calling it a historic correction of decades-old neglect.Bains also raised concerns about Himachal Pradesh’s entry tax, assuring that the issue would be taken up with the neighbouring state. He demanded the protection of leaseholders on BBMB surplus land and called for a new industrial focal point in Nangal to boost local employment.Addressing the gathering, Manish Sisodia highlighted the AAP government’s focus on education and healthcare, claiming that Punjab schools are now among the best in the country. He said the “Delhi model” of education was being successfully replicated in Punjab. Sisodia also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “worried” about the success of Punjab’s governance model and accused the Centre of filing false cases against AAP leaders, which he claimed had not stood scrutiny in courts.Mann also listed his government’s achievements, including providing over 65,000 government jobs, a health insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh, and financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to women.
