SRINAGAR: Alleging that Waqf (Amendment) Bill threatens Muslims’ interests, Kashmir’s top clergyman and separatist leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Thursday again wrote to Jagdambika Pal, head of the JPC examining the proposed amendments, seeking an urgent meeting to discuss the issue. In a letter to Pal in Sept, Mutahida Majlis-E-Ulema chief had claimed that the Bill can undermine Waqf board’s autonomy and adversely affect religious, social, and charitable Islamic institutions.”Considering the gravity of the situation and its potential impact on the community, we once again request you to give us an audience at the earliest possible time. Jammu and Kashmir being a Muslim-majority state requires its concerns to be heard and addressed thoughtfully,” Mirwaiz said.
