More than 60% Indians use AI, more than twice the global average: Microsoft




NEW DELHI: India is adopting artificial intelligence at an extraordinary pace, with 65 per cent of Indians having used AI, which is more than double the global average of 31 per cent, as per Microsoft’s latest Global Online Safety survey.The survey revealed that AI adoption in India has surged by 26 per cent compared to 2023, with millennials, aged 25-44, leading the trend, having 84 per cent of the population using AI tools.It mentioned that Indians particularly used AI for translations, answering questions, boosting workplace efficiency, and assisting students with schoolwork. At the same time, awareness of digital challenges among Indian parents has grown, reflecting a transition towards more cautious AI engagement.However, concerns remain and deepfakes, scams, and AI hallucinations were pointed out as major risks. The study revealed “More than 80 per cent of respondents worry about AI usage for children under 18 years.”Online abuse was among the top concerns regarding AI as, alarmingly, more than 80 per cent of Indian teens reported experiencing an online risk, underscoring the urgent need for safer digital spaces.The survey was conducted between 19 July and 9 August 2024, covered 15,000 teenagers, aged 13 to 17 and adults across 15 countries
