Popular rapper-singer Badshah has landed in fresh controversy after his recently released Haryanvi music video Tateeree was removed from YouTube following a police complaint and legal action in Haryana. The Haryana Police on Friday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the singer at the cybercrime police station in Panchkula. The complaint was filed by a local resident who alleged that the song contains objectionable lyrics and visuals that are offensive and inappropriate.According to the FIR, the case has been registered under Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 and Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with obscene acts and songs. The complainant alleged that the music video, released on Badshah’s official YouTube channel, portrays girls in school uniforms in what appears to be a school-like setting referred to as “Badshala”, described as a distortion of the word “pathshala”. The complaint further stated that the song includes lyrics and scenes that are allegedly indecent and could send a wrong message to society. It was also claimed that presenting such visuals in a school environment could negatively influence children and young viewers and potentially encourage disrespectful attitudes toward girls.Taking note of the issue, the Haryana State Commission for Women has also stepped in. Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia said the body has summoned Badshah to appear before it on March 13 to explain the intent behind the lyrics and visuals used in the song.Meanwhile, Mahipal Dhanda said the state government has taken serious cognisance of the matter. He criticised the portrayal of schoolgirls in the music video and said such depiction of culture is unacceptable.Dhanda also stated that authorities have been directed to investigate whether permission was taken to use a state transport bus shown in the video. Officials have been asked to identify the depot to which the bus belongs, and action may be taken against the driver and conductor if any rules were violated.Police officials confirmed that the investigation is currently underway and further action will depend on the findings of the probe.
