The Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested a drug inspector posted in Muktsar while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a drug manufacturer in Bathinda.An officer of the bureau said the arrest was made after a trap was laid on the basis of a complaint lodged by a local resident. The complainant had alleged that the drug inspector had been blackmailing him and demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.“We met at a restaurant today. He first sat in my car, where I handed over Rs 1 lakh to him. He took the money in a packet and then left in his car. The vigilance authorities then arrested him and seized the money from his car,” said the complainant. The Vigilance authorities said the complainant’s factory had been sealed a few months ago and was reopened recently. “The drug inspector had allegedly demanded money for helping in the matter,” they claimed.A case is being registered in Bathinda.
