The family of Nancy Grewal, a 45-year-old Sikh social media influencer who was stabbed outside a home in LaSalle, Ontario, is remembering her as a kind-hearted and dedicated woman.Grewal was killed on March 3 outside a house on Todd Lane where she worked as a personal support worker (PSW). Her sister, Alishaa Grewal, speaking from Mumbai, said the two regularly spoke through video calls and shared a close bond.“She was more like a mother to me than a sister,” Alishaa said in an interview with CBC News.According to the family, Grewal had previously received death and assault threats on social media. She was known for openly criticising Khalistan extremism online. Less than a week before her death, Grewal told CBC she sometimes felt afraid after receiving threats but tried to remain strong.Hooded man seenHome security footage shared by a homeowner named Nancy with CBC reportedly shows a hooded man approaching the front deck of her home and pouring liquid from a gas can before setting it on fire. The flames spread along the deck but died down quickly, partly due to wet weather and the paint on the surface. The homeowner said she had reported death threats to Windsor police.CBC said it attempted multiple times to confirm reports of an arson attack and threats with the Windsor Police Service before Grewal’s death but did not receive a response. Windsor police later referred all questions to LaSalle police and did not comment further.Grewal’s mother, Shinderpal Kaur, speaking to media in India, described the attack as brutal, claiming her daughter was chased and stabbed multiple times.Grewal moved to Canada in 2018 after working as a professional singer in India. She later became a PSW and dreamed of starting a healthcare business to support and hire more caregivers.Her family is now trying to obtain emergency visas to travel to Canada.
