Raising concern over Punjabis stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), local MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla has written to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, seeking immediate arrangement of special direct flights to Amritsar.In his letter, Aujla highlighted the grave difficulties being faced by several Indian nationals, particularly from Punjab, who are currently stranded in Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and US-Israel. He said he had received multiple representations from affected families requesting urgent assistance for the safe return of their loved ones. Aujla said those stranded in UAE included elderly citizens, women, young children, tourists and transit passengers who were unable to return to their homes in Punjab. “Many of them are facing extended stays, financial hardship, health related concerns and emotional distress due to uncertainty,” he added.The MP urged the ministry to direct Indian carriers such as Air India, Air India Express and IndiGo to operate special relief flights directly to Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar. He said such an initiative, similar to arrangements by UAE based airlines like Etihad Airways, Emirates and Flydubai, would greatly ease the present crisis. Aujla said Indian carriers had adequate operational capacity and, with coordinated efforts between the Government of India and UAE aviation authorities, necessary permissions could be secured quickly.“Direct connectivity to Amritsar would ensure swift and dignified repatriation of passengers without the burden of additional domestic connections. It would reduce congestion at major metropolitan airports and ensure better use of available airline resources,” he said.
