A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited Jeeda village on Friday in connection with the twin blasts that occurred at a house here on September 10 last year, leaving 19-year-old law student Gurpreet Singh and his father, Jagtar Singh, injured.Sources said an NIA official spoke to Gurpreet’s family, seeking details about his purchase of mobile phone and other matters related to the case. The family members reportedly said they had given Gurpreet money to buy a phone after taking some advance from a commission agent. The team also collected information regarding his activities prior to the explosions.Sources said the NIA was likely to file a chargesheet against Gurpreet Singh in court on February 24. Gurpreet is currently in judicial custody. The family has reportedly been informed that they may engage an advocate for the proceedings.Gurpreet’s right hand was amputated due to the first explosion, while his father sustained serious injuries in the second explosion. The incident came to light after a private hospital alerted the police about the nature of the injuries the following day.Initial investigations suggested that Gurpreet might have been self-radicalised through online content and experimenting with explosives. He was reportedly a keen follower of Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar and had even created a fake social media account to follow Masood and other extremists.The police earlier said that he had watched videos related to assembling bombs and had sourced chemicals through online orders. Gurpreet was booked under the Explosives Act and the BNS at the Nehianwala police station. However, the local police said that they were not aware of the NIA team’s visit today.The case was initially investigated by local police, but the NIA later took over.
