Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Wednesday refuted allegations of having a political agenda behind his foot march stressing that his sole aim was to turn the fight against the drug abuse into a mass movement, for which he had urged all parties to join him.Kataria also dismissed ruling AAP’s accusations that his anti-drug padyatra was joined by those “responsible for the spread of the menace” in the state, saying he had “personally invited” political leaders, including the Chief Minister, ministers and legislators, to be with him. The remarks came a day after the presence of Dera Radha Soami chief Gurinder Singh Dhillon, SAD president Sukhbir Badal and several BJP leaders kicked up a political row, with the Congress alleging that yatra aimed at reviving the SAD-BJP alliance ahead of the state polls next year.On Sukhbir and BJP leaders joining the march, ruling AAP asked the Governor to be careful about who he walks with, blaming the SAD-BJP regime from 2007 to 2017 for the spread of the substance abuse.Responding to a query on the third day of his padyatra here, Kataria junked the charges of helping both parties revive their alliance by helping the Akalis find the relevance once against through his foot march and prepare the ground for the tie-up.He also praised the efforts made by the AAP government to end the problem, referring to the statewide anti-drug drive launched by it. “The Government needs your support to wipe out the menace. Come forward to discharge your duty now to save the state and the country,” he appealedto people. BJP senior leaders Surjit Kumar Jyani and Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi also shared the stage with him today.Indian Test cricket team Captain Shubman Gill, a Fazilka native, and actor Sonu Sood also appealed to people through video messages to join the anti-drug drive in large numbers.
