With the one-week notice period given to the ruling AAP’s former district women wing president Satveer Kaur having ended, the Vigilance Bureau has started efforts to arrest her in the alleged bribe-for-job case.Satveer, also the incumbent sarpanch of Kaljharani village here, was booked on January 25 for allegedly demanding a monthly bribe from a contractual driver in the Punjab State Forest Development Corporation in alleged connivance with its chairman, Rakesh Puri. The case was registered against Satveer on the complaint of Jatinder Singh, who was attached as a driver with Puri and claimed he was removed from service in October 2023 after refusing to continue paying the alleged bribe.Puri, however, denied any role in the alleged wrongdoing, claiming that he had given his statement to the vigilance authorities. As per the FIR, the complainant submitted 11 audio and video recordings on a pen drive to the Vigilance Bureau to substantiate his claims. The bureau stated in the FIR that the transcripts of these recordings revealed that Satveer Kaur had acknowledged the demand of Rs 8,500 per month and referred to discussions held in the chairman’s office. In the recordings, she is also allegedly heard admitting receipt of Rs 10,000 and seeking the remaining amount.Talking to The Tribune, Inspector Rajandeep Kaur, Vigilance Bureau, Bathinda, said, “The seven-day notice given to Satveer through her husband has expired and we have started efforts to arrest her.”
