The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday issued summons to actors Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt after taking suo moto cognizance of media reports over alleged obscenity and vulgarity in their recently released song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from the film ‘KD: The Devil’.A similar summon was also issued to singer-lyricist Badshah over his song ‘Tattiri/Tatihari’. The action was taken in response to several complaints alleging that the songs had offensive and sexually explicit lyrics as well as undesirable imagery that could hurt viewers, particularly children. “The content prima facie appears to be sexually suggestive, objectionable, and violative of provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, IT Act, and POCSO Act,” the Commission said. “Summons have been issued to actress Nora Fatehi, Raqueeb Alam, actor Sanjay Dutt, Venkat K Narayana (Producer, KVN Group), and Kiran Kumar (director. They have been asked to appear before the Commission on March 24,” it added. Following its debut, the ‘Sarke Chunar’ song drew criticism from industry insiders and on social media. Critics have called its lyrics and choreography vulgar, sparking debates about the limits of creative freedom and responsibility in entertainment.The song has been removed from YouTube.The NCW’s summons marks a significant escalation in the matter, bringing it into the realm of legal and regulatory considerations. The commission is expected to review the complaints and determine whether further action is required under existing laws related to obscenity and the portrayal of women.The dispute surrounding the song has become a major talking point as the movie ‘KD: The Devil’ prepares for release. The women’s rights body also took note of the alleged obscene content in the song ‘Tattiri/Tatihari.’It issued summons to singer-lyricist Badshah, directors Mahi Sandhu and Joban Sandhu, as well as producer Hiten, directing them to appear before the Commission.“They have been asked to appear before the Commission on March 25 along with relevant documents,” it added.
