Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Naveen Singla, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora, carried out a surprise midnight visit to Phagwara on late Sunday night to review law-and-order preparedness under Operation Prahar 2.Arriving after midnight, DIG Singla immediately summoned all police officers of the Phagwara sub-division, including SP Madhvi Sharma, and held a detailed briefing to outline the operational roadmap of the intensified anti-crime drive. The visit coincided with a comprehensive night domination exercise that continued throughout the night and into the early hours of Monday.Addressing the officers, DIG Singla exhorted the police force to act with renewed vigour and precision against gangsters, their local networks and other anti-social elements. Stressing proactive and intelligence-driven policing, he directed officers to intensify search operations and ensure effective ground-level intelligence collection. Special emphasis was laid on the seizure and examination of mobile phones of suspects, which, he noted, could provide vital clues about criminal linkages, movements and past activities.Referring to the outcomes of Operation Prahar 1 conducted in the Jalandhar Range, DIG Singla shared with The Tribune that the first phase yielded significant results. During the drive, 529 persons were arrested, while around 700 individuals were verified. Police teams conducted more than 2,000 raids across the range, took preventive action against 96 persons and arrested 52 proclaimed offenders. In addition, 335 history-sheeters were checked, 11 gun houses were inspected, and verification of 104 travel agents was carried out as part of efforts to plug logistical and financial support to criminal elements.DIG Singla told that around 300 raids were conducted in different CASO operation across Jalandhar range, while more than 160 suspects were apprehended out of which 100 suspects, including five proclaimed offenders were formally arrested on first day of Operation Prahar 2 in which three weapons were recoved and impounded.DIG Singla said that series of this drive will continue to clean the region from gangsters.Following recent violent incidents in parts of the Doaba region, police leadership has further intensified surveillance, patrolling and enforcement measures. The midnight inspection and sustained night domination were part of a broader strategy to prevent crime, curb criminal movement and reassure the public of the police’s firm control over the situation.Senior officers reviewed nakas, patrolling routes and field deployments, and issued instructions to strengthen coordination among police stations, special units and intelligence wings. DIG Singla made it clear that criminals, irrespective of their location or influence, would be pursued relentlessly and brought to justice.Addressing concerns raised in public discourse regarding law and order, senior officials reiterated that police action is targeted, intelligence-based and strictly against those involved in criminal activities. Allegations of arbitrary action were dismissed as baseless.Police have also enhanced monitoring of social media platforms, cautioning against the spread of rumours, fear, or misinformation intended to disturb public peace. Strict action, officials warned, would be taken against those attempting to glorify crime or intimidate citizens online.
