Opposition Members of Parliament staged a protest at the entrance to Parliament on Tuesday, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Centre of failing to adequately address the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The demonstration took place on the staircase of Makar Dwar during the second day of the resumed Budget Session.Holding placards and banners, the MPs raised slogans against the Prime Minister and criticised the government’s handling of the situation in the region. One banner carried the message “PM is Compromised” and displayed photographs of Modi alongside US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.Several MPs who had earlier been suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the Budget Session were also part of the protest. They had been barred following disruptions in the House during the first phase of the session.Congress MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said the protest was aimed at questioning the government’s stand on the issue and holding it accountable. According to him, the government’s approach reflected a compromise that could affect the country’s interests.“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surrender before Donald Trump is a major compromise with the future of the country’s farmers, traders and youth,” Warring said. He added that citizens had the right to question the government, particularly when decisions could have long-term consequences for the nation. The Budget Session began on January 28, but its first phase was marked by repeated disruptions in the Lok Sabha. Opposition members repeatedly demanded a discussion on the unpublished memoirs of former Army Chief General M M Naravane, leading to frequent adjournments of the House.Amid the standoff, the Lok Sabha on February 3 suspended eight Opposition MPs for the remainder of the 2026 Budget Session following chaotic scenes in the House. Those suspended included Congress MPs Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Hibi Eden, C Kiran Kumar Reddy, Prashant Yadaorao Padole and Dean Kuriakose, along with CPI(M) MP S Venkatesan.Despite the suspensions, Opposition MPs continued to raise their demands outside the House, with Tuesday’s protest focusing on the government’s position on developments in West Asia. The demonstration added to the tensions between the government and the Opposition during the ongoing Budget Session.
