Former president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and president of the Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Paramjit Singh Sarna, on Thursday urged the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib to take immediate action in view of the serious allegations levelled by Giani Raghbir Singh. In a statement issued here, Sarna said that the charges made publicly by Giani Raghbir Singh, Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, during a press conference at Jalandhar, were of a grave nature and warranted urgent attention. He said that if the allegations were found to be true, strict action must be initiated against those responsible. However, if the charges were baseless, the SGPC should not hesitate to proceed against Giani Raghbir Singh. Sarna further said that the reference made to Giani Sultan Singh in the matter should also be examined. He suggested that the case be handed over to the SGPC under the supervision of the Akal Takht Sahib.Related news: SGPC gives 72-hour ultimatum to Golden Temple head granthi Giani Ragbir Singh over corruption claimsTime to ensure transparency in SGPC working: Punjab Speaker Kultar Singh SandhwanNotice served without probe: Akal Takht ex-Jathedar Giani Harpreet SinghSarna appealed to the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, to convene a meeting of the five Singh Sahiban at the earliest to deliberate on the seriousness of the issue and initiate appropriate action. He cautioned that any delay in addressing the matter could lead to confusion and speculation among the Sikh community. Questioning the manner in which the statement was presented at the press conference, Sarna alleged that Giani Raghbir Singh appeared to be reading from a prepared document. He asked who had prepared the note and from where it had been obtained. He termed the episode a possible larger conspiracy aimed at defaming the SGPC, the SAD or certain individuals, adding that no Sikh would tolerate attempts to malign religious institutions. He further stated that by making such allegations, Giani Raghbir Singh had attempted to tarnish the dignity of the office of Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, which he said, was unacceptable at any cost. Sarna maintained that instead of levelling allegations publicly, it would have been more appropriate to use the authority of his religious office to seek action.
