State-owned power major NTPC Ltd has set an ambitious target of building 30 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047, contributing to the Centre’s broader plan of achieving 100 GW of nuclear capacity. To advance this goal, NTPC is pursuing a two-pronged strategy involving joint ventures with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited and the creation of a dedicated nuclear subsidiary, MoS for Power Shripad Naik informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.Smart metering drive hits 4.19 crore unitsAs many as 4.19 crore smart meters have been installed across the nation under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). The Centre has sanctioned smart metering works for 45 power distribution utilities across 28 states and UTs, the LS was informed. However, the rollout remains uneven. Despite having consumer smart meters sanctioned, Punjab, Goa, Meghalaya and Tamil Nadu have not installed a single smart meter so far. MoS for Power Shripad Naik said the RDSS was launched in July 2021 to strengthen India’s electricity distribution segment.
