PM holds bilaterals with top leaders of Mauritius, Lanka, Slovakia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a round of bilateral meetings with global leaders and dignitaries on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit, focusing on artificial intelligence cooperation, strategic partnerships, maritime security and reforms in global governance institutions.In his meeting with Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Modi emphasised the deepening of the enhanced strategic partnership between the two countries, describing Mauritius as a key pillar of India’s “Mahasagar vision” for the Indian Ocean region. The discussions covered collaboration in artificial intelligence, digital technologies, cultural exchanges and people-to-people connectivity, along with coordinated efforts to ensure regional prosperity and maritime security.The PM later met António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, where the two sides deliberated on making artificial intelligence inclusive and development-oriented. India reiterated support for international initiatives that deploy AI for sustainable development and climate action. Modi also renewed India’s long-standing call for reforms in multilateral institutions, stressing greater representation for the Global South in decision-making structures.Engagements with neighbouring Sri Lanka also figured prominently in the diplomatic outreach. In talks with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, both leaders reviewed progress in bilateral ties and discussed expanding cooperation across energy, connectivity, infrastructure, healthcare, skilling and the blue economy. Officials indicated the conversation also touched on economic stabilisation and regional development frameworks in the Indian Ocean.The PM also met Alois, hereditary prince of Liechtenstein, focusing on economic and technological collaboration following India’s trade engagement with European partners. Discussions explored innovation ecosystems, research and development partnerships, advanced manufacturing and skill development linkages between Indian and European enterprises.In another key meeting, Modi held talks with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, where both sides discussed expanding trade and investment prospects in light of growing India-Europe economic cooperation. The leaders explored collaboration in digital public infrastructure, startups, defence technologies and space sector partnerships.Officials said the series of meetings underlined India’s attempt to position itself as a bridge between developed and developing economies in shaping the global AI governance architecture. New Delhi highlighted the need for trusted, human-centric and equitable deployment of emerging technologies while safeguarding sovereignty and data rights.
