The State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, in association with the Border Security Force (BSF), claimed to have busted a cross-border drug and weapon-smuggling cartel with the arrest of one person and the seizure of seven pistols and over 2 kg of heroin in Fazilka district.According to official sources, acting on a tip-off, SSOC Fazilka launched a special operation in the Jalalabad subdivision of Fazilka district and apprehended Gurnam Singh alias Gama, a resident of the Mamdot area in Ferozepur district, near Baghe Ke Uttar village.A senior official said that the smuggling of arms also indicates the involvement of gangsters in the cross-border smuggling cartel.During the operation, the forces seized 2.102 kg of heroin, seven pistols — including one Glock pistol, four .30 bore pistols and two 9 mm pistols — along with magazines, live cartridges and a motorcycle.According to SSOC officials, the consignment of arms, ammunition and contraband was smuggled from Pakistan via drone by Pakistan-based smugglers. An FIR under Sections 21C, 25, 62 and 85 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act has been registered at the SSOC police station in Fazilka.
