The court of the judicial magistrate here has ordered preservation of the CCTV footage installed near or at the place of the alleged encounter of Ranjit Singh along with the GPS location and other relevant data of all police officials involved in the alleged shoot-out.Ranjit Singh was killed in an alleged encounter with the police in Puranashala. He was arrested by the Gurdaspur police for allegedly killing ASI Gurnam Singh and Home Guard jawan Ashok Kumar at the Adhian joint BSF-Punjab Police check post, near the international border.The court has also ordered that the SMO, Gurdaspur civil hospital, should constitute a special board to medically examine the injuries of CIA in-charge Gurmeet Singh. The court added that it should be specifically informed whether Gurmeet Singh was fired upon or the injuries were self-inflicted.The court also directed the SMO to videograph the process of the post-mortem by constituting a board of doctors.Ranjit’s mother Sukhjinder Kaur had requested the court to get the autopsy of her son conducted by a medical board of the PGI or any government medical college of high reputation. However, the judicial magistrate referred this matter to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), saying “it is the domain of the CJM”.The magistrate said all police officials mentioned in Sukhjinder Kaur’s application, including the Gurdaspur SSP, the SHOs of Dorangla, Behrmapur and Puranashala and CIA Incharge Gurmeet Singh and other cops involved in the encounter, were directed to give details of their phone numbers to the investigating officer and the telecom company.“The telecom company is directed to preserve the call details of these officials from February 20 to February 28. Similarly, the GPS locations of these officials and the footage of CCTVs installed near the spot have to be preserved and made a part of the investigation. Similarly, call details and location of deceased Ranjit Singh, too, will have to be preserved,” read the court order.The DC has already ordered a magisterial inquiry into the case, which is being conducted by the SDM, Dinanagar. The Gurdaspur police had claimed that Ranjit Singh was killed in an encounter while allegedly trying to escape after firing at the police officers.
