Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today launched a sharp political attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while laying the foundation stone of a Rs 24.5-crore Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Fatehgarh Sahnianwali village in the Sardulgarh Assembly constituency here.In his 35-minute-long speech, Mann said earlier governments had labelled the area as “backward” and distributed backward area certificates instead of ensuring development.Taking a dig at SAD, he referred to statements by Sukhbir Singh Badal and alleged that the previous regime’s education policies had weakened academic standards. He accused both the Akalis and the Congress of running governments through limited “four-point programmes” focused on “myself, my son, my nephew and my brother-in-law”, alleging that they promoted family interests.Without naming specific leaders, Mann also attacked the BJP, saying the party had no real base in Punjab. “An engine cannot run with leftover parts,” he remarked, contrasting it with what he called the “latest technology engine” of the AAP.Referring to the farmers’ agitation over the three controversial farm laws, he accused the SAD of misleading people and termed then Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s resignation as political compulsion rather than sacrifice. He further alleged corruption in sand mining and public works under previous regimes, asserting, “I will not allow even Re 1 to go astray. If we spare any black sheep, we are responsible.”Highlighting achievements, Mann claimed his government had provided 63,000 jobs and improved canal irrigation coverage from 21-22 per cent in 2022 to 68 per cent in less than four years. He announced the upgrade of the Mansa-Talwandi road at Rs 31.2 crore, new irrigation channels spanning 158 km at a cost of Rs 33.07 crore, three new power grids worth over Rs 12 crore, and Rs 14.76 crore for Sardulgarh’s sewerage.Earlier, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the village panchayat had given land for the ITI and added that the AAP was formed to “sow the seeds of education in politics across the country”. State Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the institute, with 240 seats and five trainers, would ensure jobs or entrepreneurship opportunities for students.Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, MLAs Gurpreet Singh Banawali, Dr Vijay Singla and Budh Ram were also present. Punjabi singer R Nait performed at the event. Some village panchayats presented the Chief Minister with a wooden plough. The Chief Minister further claimed that some girls had met him and told him they had to travel 25 km to attend school. “I have signed the letter in this regard and informed Harjot Bains as well,” he said.
