Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday said he would not spare anyone violating the law, irrespective of the position they held in the government. The remark came in the wake of the controversy surrounding former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, who is accused of abetting the suicide of an officer of the Punjab Warehousing Corporation in Amritsar on Saturday. Also read: Punjab ex-minister Laljit Bhullar arrested in connection with Amritsar warehousing official’s deathMann had immediately sought Bhullar’s resignation from the Cabinet. After Bhullar was taken into custody from Mandi Gobindgarh, Mann posted on his X handle that, for him, the entire Punjab was one family.“If anyone in Punjab violates the law, strict action will be taken against them, no matter what position they hold or whether they are my relative or someone influential. Protecting anyone is not our party’s agenda. There is a strict prohibition on cash and seeking favours,” he said. The arrest of the former minister, who claimed that he was voluntarily surrendering before the police, came within hours of Union Home Minister Amit Shah saying he was willing to order a CBI probe into the matter.AAP media incharge Baltej Pannu said the government’s response was different from others, noting that they had not only removed the minister in the interest of a fair probe into the death but had also registered an FIR against him.
