Hockey India will host the Asian Champions Trophy in Punjab for the first time ever, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced while highlighting the state’s achievements in sports on completing four years of AAP rule.“It will be for the first time that Punjab will be hosting an international hockey event. The matches will be played in Mohali and Jalandhar,” said Mann.The first match is expected on October 26 or 27, though the official modalities of the event are yet to be announced.The state will soon upgrade its infrastructure, and considering hockey’s popularity, Punjab will also host a Four-Nation Hockey Championship annually.“The association has promised the state a Four-Nation Hockey Tournament every year. We will work on naming the cup and submit our infrastructure plans soon,” Mann added.Meanwhile, after a gap of 44 years, Punjab will host the National U-13 Badminton Championship in Jalandhar.Additionally, the state will organise ‘Khed Wattan Punjab Diyan’ in September, featuring a range of rural and urban sports for enthusiasts aged 16 to 75 years.
