Elderly farmer Mahinder Kaur, who has filed a defamation case against BJP MP and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, will get a new house on Friday at Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda, bringing relief to the family. The two-room house with a kitchen has been constructed by the Midland Langar Sewa Society, headed by UK-based philanthropist Randhir Singh, at the site of the family’s old residence, which was nearly 50-year-old and in a dilapidated condition. The family has only three members—Mahinder Kaur, her husband Lambh Singh and son Gurdas Singh.Harwinder Singh, a member of the society, said they had built around 32 houses for needy families so far. After learning through media reports about Mahinder Kaur’s condition and her son’s mobility issues, the society decided to construct the house on priority and completed it in about three months.“The society will also provide basic appliances such as fans, lights and a washing machine to the family,” said Harwinder.Meanwhile, Gurdas Singh, Mahinder Kaur’s son, said the family owned a few milch animals and about 13 acre land but cultivated wheat and paddy only on five acres due to some dispute and non-cultivable land. He said he had been unable to walk properly for the past six months due to a bite-related medical complication.
