Rani of Solan and Lali of Phagwara (Punjab) won the wrestling championships in the men and women categories, respectively, at the summer festival at Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district that concluded on Thursday evening. Sports Minister Yadvindra Goma conferred the awards on the winners. Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani was also present on the occasion.Goma, while addressing the gathering, said that sports like wrestling demanded the highest fitness level and players required regular practice and exercise to be ready for the next bouts. He added that earlier, it was a sport of men but now women were also excelling in it and many of them had brought laurels to the country at the international level.Later, Goma gave away awards to the winners. In the men (senior) category, Lali of Phagwara (Punjab) was awarded a cash prize of Rs 51,000 while runner-up Gurjit of Makroda (Punjab) was given a reward of Rs 41,000. In the Bal Kesari category, winner Abhinash Chandpur was given a reward of Rs 5,100 and a ‘gurja’ while runner-up Omvir of Bilaspur was given Rs 4,100.In the Bilaspur Kesari event, winner Ayush Chandpur was given a reward of Rs 11,000 and a ‘gurja’ while runner-up Karan of Ghumarwin was given Rs 9,000. The winner of the Himachal Kesari competition, Shubham Panwal, was given a cash prize of Rs 21,000 while runner-up Dheeraj of Mandi was given Rs 15,000.The winner of the women’s wrestling competition, Rani of Solan, was given a cash prize of Rs 15,000 while runner-up Radha of Solan was given Rs 11,000.
