The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday secured both the chairperson and vice-chairperson posts of the Phul Panchayat Samiti in Bathinda district. The elections, which had been deferred earlier, were finally held at the District Administrative Complex (DAC) here following directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.Mandeep Kaur was elected as the chairperson, while Kiranjeet Kaur was chosen as the vice-chairperson.AAP’s Rampura Phul MLA Balkar Singh Sidhu was also present in the meeting hall during the proceedings. As he stepped out of the DAC, a large number of SAD workers gathered there raised slogans in favour of the party.Senior SAD leader and former minister Sikander Singh Maluka said the party enjoyed a clear majority in the 18-member block samiti. “Out of the total 18 members, SAD has 10 members, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has five, Congress two, and one is an Independent,” he said.
