A 22-year-old student from Karnataka, Saketh Sreenivasaiah, who was studying at the University of California, Berkeley, has been found dead in the United States.He had been missing for six days.Saketh was pursuing a Master of Science degree in the Product Development Programme at UC Berkeley. He was last seen near Lake Anza in Tilden Regional Park.His roommate, Baneet Singh, shared the sad news on LinkedIn. He wrote that Saketh’s body was found in Lake Anza near the Berkeley hills. Singh said he is now working with authorities to help Saketh’s family travel from India to the US on an emergency visa.Singh said there were no major signs that something was wrong until the last two weeks. During that time, Saketh had started eating less and was not talking much. He was mostly eating chips and cookies.Saketh had invited Singh to go to Lake Anza on January 21, but Singh did not go because he felt lazy.Singh also shared their last conversation. He saw Saketh coming back from class wearing a red bathrobe and asked why he wore it to class.Saketh replied that he had stopped caring about what people thought and did not care about anything anymore. Singh said he laughed at the time, thinking Saketh was joking. Now, he feels sad and regrets not taking the comment seriously.Singh asked people to check on their friends and loved ones. He said life as an international student can be very difficult. He also said he wouldtake a break from social media to grieve and asked others to spread love and support instead of sadness.Because of the attention the story received, Singh made his LinkedIn profile private and asked for privacy.The Indian Consulate in San Francisco confirmed that local police found Saketh’s body. The Consulate said it is in touch with the family and will help with all necessary arrangements, including sending his body back to India.
