‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ sequel is facing a dispute. While directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru announced plans for Sanam Teri Kasam 2, producer Deepak Mukut claims he owns the rights and hasn’t authorized their involvement. Mukut announced the sequel with Harshvardhan Rane in 2024. The writing is in progress, and the film will commence production once the script is completed. Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane starrer ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ is enjoying renewed attention following its re-release. Directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru’s recent announcement of sequel plans ignited fan excitement. However, the original film’s producer has now intervened, stating that the directors lack the authority to announce a follow-up.Deepak Mukut, the producer of ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’, clarified that he holds the rights to the film and has not authorized directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru to announce a sequel. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he stated, “The IP of Sanam Teri Kasam belongs to me since I am its producer. So, the rights to make a sequel or even a prequel or a remake rests with me. In fact, I announced the sequel in September 2024 with Harshvardhan Rane in the lead..As for the directors (Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru), I haven’t had any discussion with them. They haven’t met and spoken to me about it. I have not finalized any director.”In response to inquiries about whether he has reached out to directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, Deepak Mukut stated that it is their responsibility to contact him, especially since they are discussing the sequel in interviews. He restated that the rights to ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ belong to him. Regarding the sequel, Deepak mentioned that the writing process is currently underway, and once it is completed, production will commence. In a show of commitment to the project, Harshvardhan recently revealed that he plans to drink only water for the next 11 days as a plea for the sequel’s realisation.’Sanam Teri Kasam’, a romantic drama that marked the Bollywood debut of Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, was first released in 2016. Made on a budget of Rs 14 crore, the film only earned Rs 9.1 crore at the box office, leading to its classification as a commercial failure. The story revolves around a heartwarming love tale with a tragic ending. The film was re-released in theaters on February 7, 2025 and has already earned Rs 27 crore, which is thrice than its original run in theatres.
