A soulful three-minute track celebrating the legacy of Sansarpur, famously known as the ‘Mecca of Hockey’, is winning hearts and rekindling pride among villagers and sports lovers alike. With its catchy line “Sansarpur Vaale Dil Jitt Lende Ne,” the song has created a wave of joy in the historic Punjab village, long revered for producing an extraordinary number of Olympians. With its powerful lyrics, emotional depth, and a rap segment, the song beautifully captures the essence of a village that has left an indelible mark on Indian hockey.Blending nostalgia with pride, the lyrics paint a vivid picture“Duniya vicho Bharat sohna, Bharat vich Punjab sohna, Punjab de pinda cho Sansarpur sohna.”The track also highlights a remarkable feat — 14 Olympians emerging from a single street, reflecting Sansarpur’s unmatched sporting heritage. The song has been written, composed, and sung by 57-year-old Ashwani Kumar, a native of Sansarpur who has been living in Cyprus for the past 32 years. Despite being away from his roots, Kumar says the village remains close to his heart. “Not a single day passes when I don’t remember Sansarpur,” he shared, adding that he plans to visit his hometown after 18 long years in the coming months.Kumar’s musical journey began only after a personal loss in 2013. Since then, he has written over 250 songs, experimenting with diverse themes, despite having no formal training. He even converted a room in his home into a makeshift studio to pursue his passion. Notably, he has never officially released any of his songs and has kept his entire collection with himself. The inspiration behind this particular song came from a heartfelt moment. Kumar revealed that his friend Davinder Singh from Sansarpur had asked him to write something special on the occasion of his grandson Gurbaaj’s birth, which was celebrated across the entire village. That moment sparked the idea to create a tribute not just to the occasion, but to the glorious legacy of Sansarpur itself. The song has drawn praise from the community. Retired professor Rupinder Singh Kular expressed pride, calling it the first-ever song dedicated to the village. Meanwhile, former Olympian Col Balbir Singh described the track as “commendable” and emotionally stirring.
