On what would have been their 41st wedding anniversary (March 24, 1985–2026), Savita Bhatti, wife of legendary satirist and comedian Jaspal Bhatti, shared a deeply emotional message on social media, evoking love, gratitude, and the irreplaceable bond they shared.Savita posted:“Happy 41st wedding anniversary Jaspalji ❤️In the millions and billions, we were chosen to be together. What a life and privilege it has been with you…to be your partner in every sense.”The post has touched fans across India, many of whom still fondly recall Jaspal Bhatti’s iconic satirical shows like Flop Show, Ulta Pulta, and his unique brand of gentle, observational humour that poked fun at bureaucracy and everyday life without malice.Jaspal Bhatti passed away on 25 October 2012 at the age of 57 in a devastating road accident near Shahkot in Nakodar, Jalandhar district, Punjab. He was travelling in a Honda Accord from Bathinda to Jalandhar via Moga to promote his upcoming film Power Cut (which was his son Jasraj’s directorial debut and released just a day after the tragedy).The car, driven by his son Jasraj Bhatti, rammed into a roadside tree in the early hours (around 1:30–2:30 AM). Jaspal Bhatti, seated in the rear, suffered severe head injuries and was declared brought dead at the hospital.Actress Surilie Gautam (heroine of Power Cut), and Navneet Joshi, a Chandigarh-based film promoter and media advisor associated with the promotion of Power Cut were also present in the car.While Jasraj Bhatti and Surilie Gautam were injured but survived (and were later discharged), Navneet Joshi was critically injured. He succumbed to his injuries after nearly three weeks on November 12, 2012.Jaspal Bhatti’s death sent shockwaves through the Indian entertainment industry, particularly in Punjab and among Doordarshan-era viewers who grew up on his sharp yet affectionate satire.Keeping the legacy aliveSavita Bhatti, who co-acted and produced many of Jaspal’s projects, has since become the torchbearer of his humour legacy.
