Noting that a section of society can’t be denigrated in the name of freedom of expression, the Supreme Court on Thursday rapped filmmaker Neeraj Pandey over the title of his the Manoj Bajpayee-starrer film ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’.Acting on a petition seeking a stay on the release of the film on OTT platform Netflix, a Bench led by Justice BV Nagarathna issued notices to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Central Board of Film Certification and Pandey.“We don’t want anybody to be denigrated like this: Supreme Court asks maker of Netflix movie “Ghooskhor Pandat” to file an affidavit confirming change of movie title along with the new title. Why should you denigrate a section of society by using such a title? This is against morality and public order. We will not allow you to release the film unless you tell us the changed title,” the Bench said. The Bench directed Pandey to file an affidavit that the film ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ doesn’t denigrate any section of society and posted it for hearing on February 19.
