Punjab’s Shahi Imam, Maulana Mohammad Usman Rahmani Ludhianvi, was attacked outside the Jama Masjid in Ludhiana. A man and his sons pelted him with bricks. One of the accused also slapped him. A video of the attack also went viral on social media on Sunday.The police division-2 registered a case against Ubed Ur Rehman, his sons Atiq Ur Rehman and Mohammad Ahmed, all residents of Brown Road.The complaint was filed by mosque office in-charge Mohammad Mujahid.The Incident was said to be the result of ongoing dispute with a shopkeeper who runs a shop within the mosque’s premises. The shopkeeper said he was the owner of the shop but mosque management claimed that shop belonged to it and the case was subjudice in court.On February 1, when the Shahi Imam with the Jama Masjid’s manager and another man was supervising the renovation work, the accused attacked him and others outside the mosque. A CCTV footage which went viral also captured the entire incident. The footage also shows a man slapping the Shahi Imam. Later, the situation was controlled and the police were called to prevent the scuffle from escalating further.”The case pertaining to the ownership dispute is pending in court. The accused also tried to mislead the court by presenting fake documents of shop. We will abide by the court orders,” said the Shahi Imam.
