The wedding of Govind Singh Sandhu, grandson of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president and former MP Simranjit Singh Mann, sparked controversy after photographs from the ceremony went viral on social media. The function was held on Saturday in New Chandigarh. The images showed a Chaur Sahib being whisked over the bridegroom, drawing criticism from sections of the Sikh community. In Sikhism, the Chaur Sahib is waved only over the Guru Granth Sahib. Accepting responsibility, Sandhu apologised to the Sikh community, termed the act an unintentional mistake, and said such honour is reserved solely for Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
