THE son of Norway’s crown princess has pleaded for release to see his ill mum for the “last time” as he awaits the verdict for his rape trial.
Marius Borg Høiby, 29, who is currently on trial facing 40 charges including rape, sexual assault, and domestic violence, was granted permission to see his sick mother Crown Princess Mette-Marit.

Oslo District Court agreed to a temporary release for Høiby due to his mum suffering from pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive disease that damages and scars lung tissue.
Her condition has recently worsened and she has been placed on a lung transplant list.
Those on the list awaiting a transplant are usually considered so ill that they likely only have one year left to live, reports say.
Prosecutors have appealed Høiby’s short-term release – and he will not be let go until the Court of Appeal makes a decision.

Høiby has previously said of his mum: “Every Jattvibeday when we meet in prison, I know that it could be the last time I see her.”
Høiby is due to receive his verdict on June 15 – and remains in custody pending the final appeal.
The Norwegian royal has been accused of raping four women between 2018 and 2024 while they were either sleeping or incapacitated.
He was repeatedly arrested last year as the case unfolded, with preliminary charges of rape, violence and criminal damage.
In at least three of the cases, he had consensual sex before the alleged rapes.
Separately, he is accused of physical and psychological abuse against his ex-partner between 2022 and 2023, and acting violently towards another former girlfriend.
Some of the charges relate to a woman from Frogner, in the Norwegian capital.
In August 2025 he had been facing 32 charges including four rapes, but the total increased to 40 counts.
Høiby faces up to 10 years in prison.
His team has said that the royal “denies all charges of sexual abuse, as well as the majority of the charges regarding violence”.
In the lead-up to “Norway’s trial of the century”, Høiby’s family was hit with fresh scandal after newly released documents related to Jeffrey Epstein showed that his mum Mette-Marit had extensive contact with the paedophile financier.
Høiby has no official public role and was born before his mother’s 2001 marriage into the Norwegian royal family.
He was raised alongside Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 21, and Prince Sverre Magnus, 19, but then lived separately in a house near the family estate.
Høiby was first arrested on August 4, 2024, over an alleged assault that left then-girlfriend Rebecca Helberg Arntsen hospitalised.
A week after his initial arrest, he released a statement via his lawyer, saying he suffers from “several mental disorders” and has “struggled with substance abuse for a long time”.
Since then, he has reportedly spent time in rehab clinics in London and has been spotted in Copenhagen, almost unrecognisable with dyed hair, sunglasses and a hoodie.
He was arrested again in September for allegedly breaching a restraining order — and again in November on fresh rape charges.
Høiby was later banned from receiving visitors or letters while in custody, over fears he could tamper with evidence.
