He also received a concurrent 18-month sentence for sexual assault and has been issued a deportation order.Incident detailsPolice said the assault took place on January 14. Prajapati delivered food to a woman’s home and later returned under the pretext of continuing their conversation. He had initially asked for her phone number and Instagram account, claiming he had just moved to the area and needed help with visa matters.Later that day, Prajapati returned to her home, and the interaction turned into a sexual assault, police said.Messages and police responseAfter the assault, Prajapati sent the victim a text saying “Hey, I am sorry” and altered his WhatsApp settings, enabling disappearing messages. Further exchanges occurred between the two, during which the victim accused him of rape and he apologised and urged her not to report it.The victim reported the crime, and police traced Prajapati using his delivery vehicle. He was arrested the same day.Detective Constable Jessica McKiernan praised the victim’s courage for coming forward, saying it allowed officers to act quickly and bring Prajapati to justice.
